Setting Up Your Portable Ice BathUpdated 12 hours ago
Whether you have the Pod, Pro, or Barrel, the setup process follows the same core steps. This guide covers everything you need to get from unboxing to your first plunge.
All models can be used indoors or outdoors on a flat, stable surface.
Before you begin
Choose your location before inflating. Once filled, your tub should not be moved.
- Surface — flat, level, and stable. Works on grass, pavers, decking, or indoors
- Drainage — position somewhere water can run off freely when draining
- Chiller connection — if pairing with a chiller, have your hoses ready before filling

Step-by-step setup
Step 1 — Unpack and lay flat
Remove your tub from the carry bag and lay flat on your chosen surface. Check for any visible damage before inflating; if anything looks off, photograph it and contact us before proceeding.
Step 2 — Inflate
Attach the double action hand pump to the inflation valve and inflate until the walls are fully firm and rigid. Run your hand along the seams to confirm inflation is even.
- Pod: Inflate via the main valve until firm.
- Pro: Inflate via the side valve. The 4" drop-stitch walls will feel noticeably hard when correctly inflated this is normal and expected.
- Barrel: Inflate via the side valve until the drop-stitch walls are fully rigid.
Once inflated, ensure all valve pins are in the raised (closed) position.
Step 3 — Connect your chiller (if applicable)
If pairing with a chiller, attach the inlet and outlet hoses to the tub fittings before adding water. This is significantly easier to do dry. For chiller setup instructions, see Chillers installation section.
Step 4 — Fill
Fill via garden hose to your preferred level, leaving the following space from the top to prevent overflow when you get in:
| Space from top | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Pod | 10–15 cm | Fast fill |
| Pro | 10–15 cm | Standard fill |
| Barrel | 15 cm | Larger volume allow extra time |
Step 5 — Set your temperature
Using ice:
| Ice required | Expected temperature | |
|---|---|---|
| Pod | 8–12 kg | 10–15°C |
| Pro | 10–14 kg | 10–15°C |
| Barrel | 12–16 kg | 10–15°C |
The Barrel's larger volume means ice melts faster top up as needed to maintain your target temperature.
Using a chiller:
| Estimated cooling time from ambient | |
|---|---|
| Pod | 4–6 hours |
| Pro | 4–6 hours |
| Barrel | 5–7 hours |
First use
New to cold therapy? Start at around 15°C for 2–3 minutes and build duration and temperature gradually over time. Always have a warm towel ready before you get in, and never plunge alone if you're new to cold water immersion.

Care and maintenance
Water care
- Add a water sanitiser tablet after every fill
- Replace water every 7–14 days with regular use, or sooner in warm weather
- Keep the lid on between sessions to retain temperature and keep debris out
- If using a chiller, follow the filter replacement schedule in your chiller guide
Draining and storage
- Open the drain valve at the base and allow the tub to empty fully
- For faster drainage on the Pro and Barrel: run the chiller pump, disconnect the outlet hose, and direct it to your drain point
- Once empty, dry the interior thoroughly before deflating, moisture trapped inside can cause mould
- Fold carefully and store in the carry bag
Repair kit: Your tub includes a repair kit for minor punctures. Keep it stored with the carry bag so it's always on hand.
