Caring for Your SaunaPodUpdated 2 hours ago

A few simple habits keep your SaunaPod performing well and lasting longer, most importantly, looking after the zipper and airing the pod properly after use. This guide covers both models (Infrared and Steam), with the steam-specific steps called out where they differ.

Step-by-step

After every session (both models)

  1. Power off and unplug the unit.
  2. Open the pod and let it air out for 15–20 minutes before closing for storage.
  3. Wipe any moisture from the interior with a dry cloth.

Steam model — additional steps

  1. Allow the steam generator to cool fully before handling or storing.
  2. Empty any remaining water from the generator after each use. Water left sitting between sessions causes mineral buildup and shortens the unit's lifespan.

Infrared model — panel care

  1. Handle the interior panels with care never fold or crease the panel areas during use or storage.

Zipper care

The zipper is one of the most-used parts of your SaunaPod and the part most worth looking after. A little care here prevents the most common issue we see.

  • Open and close it slowly and smoothly. Rushing is the most common cause of a zipper coming off track.
  • Never force a stiff zipper. If you feel resistance, stop and check for fabric caught in the teeth before continuing.
  • Keep the teeth clean. Lint, dust, and debris cause stiffness over time wipe them with a dry cloth regularly.
  • Lubricate occasionally. Apply a small amount of zipper lubricant or a beeswax-based product to keep movement smooth. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can damage the fabric.
  • Store with the zipper partially open, not fully closed. This reduces tension on the teeth.
  • Always air out fully before zipping closed after steam sessions. Closing the zipper while the fabric is damp or hot causes stiffness over time.

Signs something's off

  • A stiff or sticking zipper — usually debris in the teeth or fabric caught; clean and check before forcing
  • A musty smell — the pod was closed before drying fully; air it out completely between sessions
  • Weaker heat (infrared) — check placement and pre-heat time before assuming a fault
  • Mineral buildup or scale (steam) — water was left in the generator; empty it after every use and use distilled or filtered water

If the zipper comes off track, do not keep forcing it head to SaunaPod Zipper Issues or contact support so we can help.

Tips & extras

  • The single best habit for your pod let it air out fully before zipping it closed. It protects both the fabric and the zipper in one step.
  • For the steam model, distilled or filtered water dramatically reduces mineral buildup in the generator worth it for the lifespan gain.
  • Treat the infrared panels gently. They line the interior walls, so be mindful when getting in, out, and packing down.
