Chiller Isn’t HeatingUpdated an hour ago
Some Vital+ chillers can warm your water as well as cool it, which is great for contrast therapy or cooler months. If the water isn’t warming up, the cause is almost always the mode setting, not a fault.
Does my chiller heat?
| Chiller | Heating | Maximum water temperature |
|---|---|---|
| Ultra X1 | No | — |
| Ultra X2 | No | — |
| Ultra X4 | Yes | 42°C (108°F) |
| Chiller Max | Yes | 45°C (113°F) |
| Ultra Ice | Yes | 45°C (113°F) |
The most common cause: the mode. Your chiller only heats when it’s set to dual-temperature mode. If it’s in cooling-only mode, it won’t warm the water, even if you set a high temperature.
To switch modes:
- Make sure the chiller is powered on.
- Press and hold the Up (▲) button for a few seconds, until the mode changes on the display.
- Check that the display now shows dual-temperature (Double).
- If it shows cooling-only (Single), hold Up again to switch back.
To set your temperature:
- Press the S button.
- Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) arrows to choose your temperature.
- Leave the controls, and the chiller will save your setting.
Once it’s in dual-temperature mode, set your target temperature. Asked for a password? You’ve opened the service menu by mistake. It’s for authorised technicians only, and you don’t need it to change modes or temperature. Press power to exit, or wait for the screen to return to normal, then follow the steps above.
Give it time
Heating a full tub takes longer than people expect, usually several hours, depending on the starting temperature, the volume of water and the weather.
- Keep the lid on. An open tub loses heat almost as fast as the chiller adds it.
- Start from warmer water if you can. Filling from a warm tap shortens the heat-up time considerably.
- Expect slower heating outdoors in cold weather. The chiller pulls heat from the surrounding air, so it works harder when the air is cold.
Other checks
- Water flow: clean filters and a primed pump matter just as much for heating as for cooling.
- Ventilation: keep at least 100 cm (39 in) clear around every vent.
- Fans and compressor: they should run while heating, just as they do while cooling. They’ll pause once the water reaches temperature.
When to contact us
If it’s in dual-temperature mode, the filters are clean, and the water still isn’t warming after a few hours with the lid on, contact us with:
- Your order number and serial number
- A photo of the screen showing the mode and set temperature
- The water temperature at the start and after an hour.
Using heating regularly?
Warm water grows bacteria much faster than cold water. Change your water more often when you’re using heat, and check that your sanitiser works at higher temperatures.
