Chiller Power Alarm (C1)Updated 2 hours ago

If your chiller shows C1 followed by a version number (such as U1.4) and then switches off, it isn’t a fault. It’s a normal message that tells you the chiller’s power was cut, for example, by being switched off at the wall, unplugged or due to a power outage.

The fix: press the power button
One press and the chiller starts normally.

▶ Video walkthrough

Why it happens
When power comes back, the chiller returns to the state it was in before:

  • It was on before the power cut: it shows the version number and starts again by itself.
  • It was off before the power cut: it shows C1 and the version number, then stays off until you press the power button.

Avoid seeing C1 next time
Switch off at the chiller’s power button first, then at the wall. Switching off only at the wall is what causes C1.

Flicking between C1 and a version number (e.g. U1.5)?
This is different. The chiller is losing power as it tries to start, and the most common cause is a blown fuse.

  1. Unplug it.
  2. Replace the fuse with the spare supplied. See [Replacing a Blown Fuse].
  3. Plug it back in and press power.

If it still flicks between codes after a new fuse, stop restarting it, as repeated restarts can damage it.

Pressed power and nothing happens?

  1. Check that the plug is firmly in at both the chiller and the wall.
  2. Check the outlet with another device, such as a lamp or phone charger.
  3. Check your RCD/GFCI or breaker. If it has tripped, reset it once.
  4. Use a dedicated outlet. Avoid power boards and long extension leads, especially on larger chillers.
  5. Check the fuse. If it needs to be replaced, we have an article for that.

⚠️ If your RCD/GFCI trips again straight away, stop. Don’t keep resetting it. That points to an electrical fault, and a qualified electrician needs to check it.

When to contact us

  • You’ve pressed power, confirmed the outlet works and replaced the fuse, and it still won’t start
  • Your RCD/GFCI keeps tripping (please contact an electrician as well)
  • The display shows anything other than C1 and a version number.

Have your order number, model and a photo of the display ready.
