Covers every Vital+ chiller. Following these guidelines keeps you safe and protects your chiller. Faults caused by not following them may not be covered by our warranty.

Before first use

Wait 24 hours. After delivery, stand your chiller upright for 24 hours before switching it on. This lets the refrigerant settle. Switching on too early can damage the compressor.
Install the filter before you switch it on.
Make sure the tub has enough water and all hoses are firmly connected. Running the pump dry damages it.

Where to put it

Upright, on a stable, level surface. Never lay it on its side or upside down.
In a well-ventilated spot with at least 100 cm (39 in) of clear space around every vent. Never in a cupboard, cabinet or enclosed space.
Out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
Not in very dusty or humid spaces.
Weather: the Ultra X2 and up are rated IPX4 (splash-resistant) and can be used outdoors under cover. They must never sit in rain, sprinklers or standing water, or be submerged. The Ultra X1 is for indoor or fully sheltered use only.

Electrical safety

Plug into a properly earthed outlet rated for your chiller’s power requirements. If you use an extension lead, it must be outdoor-rated and rated for the chiller’s load. Never share the circuit with other high-power appliances.
Position the power outlet higher than the chiller, so water can’t run down the cord into the socket.
Push the plug fully into the socket.
Never touch the chiller, plug or controls with wet hands.
Keep the cord out of walkways and away from heavy objects. Don’t run it under rugs.
Unplug the chiller before getting in the water, before cleaning or maintenance, and during electrical storms.

Cold weather
If the outdoor temperature could drop below 0°C (32°F), either keep the chiller running with water circulating, or drain it completely and store it indoors. Water left sitting in a chiller can freeze and crack internal parts.

Storage (drained)
Store between -20°C and 55°C (-4°F to 131°F), at 20–85% humidity.

Maintenance
Clean the filter and dust screen regularly. A blocked filter is the most common cause of performance issues. See [Filter Maintenance Full Guide]. Always unplug before maintenance.

Who can operate it
Chillers should only be set up and operated by adults (18+). Keep children and pets away while it’s running.

If something’s not right

Showing an error code? See Chiller Error Codes.
Stop using it and contact us if you notice burning smells, smoke, sparks, water inside the unit, a damaged power cord, or leaking refrigerant. Don’t open the casing or attempt electrical repairs yourself.
