Delivery Holding SurchargesUpdated 2 days ago
What is a holding surcharge?
A delivery holding surcharge is a fee charged by the freight carrier when a scheduled delivery needs to be delayed or held at the carrier's depot at the customer's request and after the order has already left our warehouse and is in transit.
This is separate from a standard missed delivery. If the carrier attempts delivery and you're not home, normal redelivery processes apply. A holding surcharge only applies when you have contacted us to request that your delivery be pushed back while your order is already on its way.
Why does this charge apply?
- Once a premium order is in transit via a freight carrier, rescheduling or holding a delivery incurs costs from the carrier for storage, handling, and reallocation of delivery resources.
- These costs are outside of Vital+'s control and are passed on directly from the carrier.
- Vital+ is not responsible for holding surcharges.
- Any fees incurred as a result of a customer-requested delay will be the responsibility of the customer.
How much does it cost?
Holding surcharges vary depending on your location, carrier, and the duration of the hold. Fees can be several hundred dollars in some cases. We'll always communicate the exact amount before issuing an invoice so there are no surprises.
How the process works
If a holding surcharge applies to your order, here's what to expect:
- We'll notify you of the charge and the amount via email
- An invoice will be issued to the email address on your order
- Payment must be made within 5 business days of the invoice being sent
- Once payment is received, your delivery will be rescheduled with the carrier
Please note: if payment is not received within 5 business days, your order will be returned to Vital+. Should this occur, we'll be in touch to discuss next steps, which may include redelivery fees or further arrangements.
How to avoid a holding surcharge
If you know your availability is limited around the time of delivery, we'd recommend reaching out to us before your order is dispatched so we can work with you to schedule a suitable delivery window at no additional cost. Once your order is in transit, changes to delivery scheduling may incur carrier fees. Contact us ahead of dispatch if you need to arrange a specific delivery window.
