XEN Door, Hinges and Bench SeatUpdated an hour ago
The XEN’s glass door and bench are fitted during assembly, so small adjustments are sometimes needed once the sauna has settled into place. This guide covers a door that doesn’t close evenly, gaps around the door, the insulation strip, and the bench seat.
The door doesn’t close evenly, or there’s a gap
Why it happens: the door hangs on adjustable hinges. If the sauna isn’t sitting perfectly level, or the hinge screws have settled, the door can sit slightly off-square, leaving a gap down one side.
Step 1: Check the sauna is level
Place a spirit level on the floor of the cabin and along the top of the frame. If the floor underneath isn’t level, the frame can twist slightly and pull the door out of line. Level the base first.
Step 2: Adjust the hinges
- Open the door and find the hinge screws.
- Check them against the hinge step in your assembly guide.
- Using the Allen key supplied, loosen the screws slightly. Don’t remove them.
- Gently move the door until it closes evenly against the frame, with an even gap all the way around.
- Hold it in position and tighten the screws gently. Don’t over-tighten. The hinges clamp onto the glass.
- Close the door and check it again.
Step 3: Still a gap?
Send us photos of the door closed, taken from the front and from the side. If the hinges can’t take up the gap, we’ll send you thicker rubber rings for the hinges, with a step-by-step guide and video.
Fitting the thicker rubber rings (once you have them):
- Have someone hold the door. The glass is heavy, so don’t do this alone.
- Loosen the hinge with the Allen key and remove it.
- Swap the rubber rings that sit between the glass and the hinge for the thicker ones.
- Refit the hinge and tighten the screws gently.
- Check that the door closes evenly.
The insulation strip has come away or is damaged
The strip around the door helps hold heat in the cabin.
- If it has come loose, press it gently back into place along its channel.
- If it’s torn, missing or won’t stay in place, send us photos of the strip, a wider photo of that part of the cabin, and your order number. Let us know if it’s affecting how the door seals, as that changes what we’ll send.
The bench seat is loose, uneven or damaged
- Check that it’s seated properly. Lift the bench and check it sits fully on both of its supports, as shown in your assembly guide.
- Check the supports. Make sure they’re securely fixed and haven’t moved.
- If it still feels unstable, don’t sit on it until we’ve had a look.
Send us photos of the bench, close-ups of the issue (for example, a crack, split or loose support), photos of the supports it sits on, and your order number.
About the timber: small changes in the wood, like slight colour variation or fine surface lines, are normal for natural timber in a heated space. A crack that goes through the wood, or a bench that flexes when you sit on it, isn’t normal. Let us know.
When to contact us:
- Your order number
- Photos as described in each section above
- What you’ve already adjusted.
Most door and bench issues are fixed with a small part and a few minutes’ adjustment.
Keep everything in good shape
- Close the door gently. Don’t let it swing shut.
- Check the hinge screws every few months, as timber can settle with heat.
- Air the sauna out after each session with the door open for 15–20 minutes, so moisture doesn’t affect the timber or seals.
