XEN Sauna Isn’t HeatingUpdated an hour ago
If your XEN doesn’t feel warm enough, or the display won’t reach your set temperature, start here. The most common reason is the way infrared works, not a fault. A traditional sauna heats the air around you. An infrared sauna heats your body directly, with the air warming more slowly. That means:
- You’ll feel the heat before the display shows it. The display measures the air temperature in the cabin.
- The display often sits below your set temperature, even when the sauna is working as it should.
- Most people are comfortable at 122–140°F (50–60°C). You don’t need the display to hit its maximum for a good session.
Give it time
- Allow 20–30 minutes of pre-heat with the door fully closed.
- In a cold room, or a garage in winter, it will take longer.
- Opening the door during pre-heat lets the warm air out and resets the progress.
Quick checks
- Is the door fully closed? Even a small gap lets heat escape. If the door doesn’t close evenly, see XEN Door, Hinges and Bench Seat.
- Is the room very cold or draughty? The XEN works best in an indoor space without strong draughts.
- Is it on a dedicated outlet? The XEN needs its own earthed outlet, with no extension lead or power board. A shared circuit can reduce performance or trip the fuse.
If some panels aren’t warming
- Switch the sauna off and unplug it for 10 minutes.
- Check that every panel cable pair is firmly connected, and every plug is fully seated in its LOAD socket on the control box.
- Plug it back in, close the door and run it for 20 minutes.
- Hold your hand near each panel (without touching) to check which ones are warm.
If the temperature reading looks wrong
- Close the door and run the sauna for 20–30 minutes.
- Unplug it for 5–10 minutes, then plug it back in and try again.
- If the reading still doesn’t make sense (for example, it doesn’t move at all, or jumps around), the temperature sensor may need checking.
- Not getting up to heat? Long-press the temperature up and down buttons. This will allow the temperature to increase up to its maximum setting.
Stop and contact us straight away if
- Any part of the sauna is unusually hot to the touch outside the heating panels
- you see scorch marks, smell burning, or see smoke
- the fuse or breaker trips more than once.
Unplug it and don’t use it until we’ve reviewed it. Also check that nothing (like a towel) has been placed over a heating panel.
When to contact us
Contact us if the display doesn’t rise at all after 30 minutes, some panels stay cold, or the reading looks wrong after a reset. Send us:
- Your order number
- Which panels are cold (for example, “back left and the one under the bench”)
- Photos of the wiring at the top of the cabin and the control box connections
- A photo of the control panel while it’s running.
If no panels heat at all, send a short video. The control box may need replacing under warranty.
