Chiller Isn't Powering On (C1)Updated 3 hours ago
If your chiller shows C1 followed by a version number (such as U1.4) and then shuts down, this is not a fault. It's a normal message that appears when the unit's power has been interrupted. In almost every case, the fix takes one button press.
The quick fix
If you're seeing C1 and a version number, simply press the power button again the chiller will start normally. That's it. C1 is the unit telling you its power was cut at some point (unplugged, a power outage, switched off at the wall), not that anything is wrong.
Why this happens
When power is restored after being cut, the chiller behaves based on what state it was in beforehand:
- If the chiller was ON before the power cut — it displays the version number and boots back up normally.
- If the chiller was OFF before the power cut — it defaults to shutdown mode after re-powering, showing C1 and the version number, then turning off. You just need to press the power button to start it again.
Either way, the unit is working as designed. A quick video walkthrough is available here.
If pressing power doesn't start it
If you've pressed the power button and the unit still won't run, work through these:
- Check it's plugged in firmly at both the unit and the wall outlet.
- Check the wall outlet has power — try another device, or a different outlet.
- Check your RCD/GFCI or breaker hasn't tripped. If it has, reset it once.
- Avoid long extension cords — use a properly rated dedicated outlet, especially on the larger units.
⚠️ If your RCD/GFCI trips again immediately after resetting, stop. Don't keep resetting it that points to an electrical fault that needs a qualified electrician, not repeated attempts.
